Let's Exfoliate -- Sugar & Salt Scrubs for All!

Sugar vs Salt Scrubs – What Is the Difference and Which One to Choose?

Skin is an organ that constantly renews itself. As cool and useful as that may be, it also means that, pretty much all the time, there’s a layer of dead skin cells covering the surface of your skin, preventing the skin from being as soft and smooth and potentially clogging your pores. We’re not about that life! What’s our motto ladies? Say it with me -- clear, moisturized skin all 2020!

Don’t be too grossed out or alarmed. Healthy, new and youthful skin is just a layer away! That is why including a scrub in your body care regimen is super. Body scrubs remove that layer of dry, dead skin cells and reveal the new, young skin underneath.

There are many different scrubs on the market, but two most popular types are salt and sugar scrubs. If you don’t know which one to pick, here are some main differences between them…

SUGAR SCRUBS

Sugar scrubs can vary a lot in texture and harshness. They can contain white sugar, which has larger, sharper granules, perfect for exfoliating the body's skin. They can also contain brown sugar, which is much finer, much gentler and can even be used to exfoliate the delicate facial skin.

Sugar is also a source of glycolic acid, a gentle alpha hydroxy acid with natural exfoliating properties. Glycolic acid dissolves dead skin cells, evens skin tone, and brightens the complexion. It’s summertime so if you’re ready to have your legs out, sugar scrubs are the way to go.

If your skin is dry, dehydrated or mature, you should definitely opt for sugar scrubs over salt scrubs. Other than exfoliating, sugar is also a natural humectant. It draws moisture to the skin and helps the skin retain moisture. Sugar can also encourage collagen production, making the skin plump and supple.

Sugar granules are also a little rounder than salt granules, so the sugar scrubs are a bit less abrasive. They might be a better choice if your skin is sensitive and prone to irritations.

SALT SCRUBS

Salt scrubs are usually harsher and more abrasive than other scrubs. Although, this can depend a lot on the type of salt used and if it’s refined.

Salt scrubs do a great job of exfoliating the skin and making it soft and glowing. Because of their roughness, they are often recommended for use on heels, elbows, and knees. However, most people can safely use natural, quality sea salt scrubs to exfoliate their whole body.

On top of being an excellent natural exfoliating agent, sea salt also draws toxins out of the skin and that way additionally purifies it. Plus, salt scrubs provide the skin with many minerals and stimulate the blood flow, improving the skin’s texture and elasticity. That is why salt scrubs are often recommended for treating skin affected by cellulite or stretch marks.

Flora’s Angels offers our one and only salt scrub, Radiant Skin body scrub. It not only removes dead skin cells, but it also increases circulation, and encourages cell regeneration which helps the skin look soft, supple, and youthful!
