Activated Charcoal: Beauty Benefits and More!

You may know activated charcoal as the thing doctors in ER use to treat poisoning and overdose. Why? This black powdery substance is absolutely amazing in collecting toxins. Here are a few ways you can use activated charcoal to enhance your beauty game:

CLEANSE & DETOXIFY YOUR SKIN

Especially if you have oily, acne prone skin, a face wash with activated charcoal will help you keep the things under control. Activated charcoal will collect all the impurities and help you reduce any skin imperfections.

One thing to keep in mind – with regular usage, activated charcoal will remove not only the excess oil, but even the necessary oils off your skin. To prevent this, always apply a face moisturizer right after washing your face, while your skin is still slightly damp.

MAKE A FACE MASK

If you are a fan of DIY projects, you can make your own charcoal face mask:

Mix equal amounts of activated charcoal and kaolin clay. Add just enough water to form a smooth paste that’s not too thick. Apply the mask to a clean face and leave it on for 5 – 10 minutes, or until it starts to dry. Then wash it off and apply your face cream right away.

You can use this mask once or twice a month, or anytime you feel your skin could use some deep cleansing.

ADD VOLUME & SHINE TO YOUR HAIR

If your hair is oily or prone to dandruff, you will love this little trick:

Before washing your hair, apply around half a teaspoon of activated charcoal to your scalp and massage it in well. Be careful – charcoal can leave black stains and make a lot of mess in your bathroom.

After around 15 minutes, wash and condition your hair as usual. You should notice that your hair feels much cleaner, lighter and full of volume. Just like with the rest of your skin, activated charcoal draws toxins, impurities and excess oil out of your scalp, adding shine and healthy appearance to your hair.

WHITEN YOUR TEETH

The ability of activated charcoal to collect impurities and bacteria can help you keep your mouth clean and healthy. And it can also help fade surface stains – perfect for all coffee and chocolate lovers!

With your finger or a toothbrush, dab a small amount of activated charcoal all over your teeth. Let it sit for around a minute. Then gently brush your teeth for another minute and rinse your mouth well. Do this at night, before going to bed, since charcoal can temporarily make your teeth black.

Toxins, chemicals, dirt, bacteria, impurities, excess oil… whether you have skincare problems or other concerns, activated charcoal may be able to help. Let’s fight toxins this week with a few sprinkles of activated charcoal! will collect it and bring it to the skin’s surface.
